Cyclone Season Ready

Cyclone Season Ready

Batteries, water, torch, gas, canned food, radio, candles, first aid kit ..... check!  Are you ready?  Our family's lifeline during Cyclone Larry was our 'Dynamo Power'  torch radio.  It ran for 30 hours on 1 set of AAA batteries then we just recharged the lithium batteries by winding the handle.  90 secs of winding gives us 20 minutes of radio operation.  The new radios and torches are more efficient and the variety is amazing.  We have great selection of dynamo lanterns and solar powered radios and torches.

Rebate Ending

This is your last chance to get the state government rebate on the purchase of a compost bin or worm farm. The rebate ends on 17th Dec so don't leave it too long.  You can always welcome to use our layby service.

Who's Who in FNQ

KURANDA CONSERVATION COMMUNITY NURSERY Inc 1 Pademelon Lane Kuranda
KCons is an entirely volunteer organization whose objectives are to assist the community to use land in an ecologically sustainable way and to enhance natural biodiversity through education and demonstration.
We promote awareness of the environment that is required for the preservation of Cassowaries including habitat protection and enhancement, and domestic animal control. We participate in research, in particular the CSIRO Cassowary Recovery Plan for the Wet Tropics, to better understand the needs of this unique, umbrella species.
We believe we’ll make good decisions about what we grow on our properties, what pets we keep, how we behave on the roads and bush tracks and how we design our towns and houses by measuring the impact our actions have on Cassowary habitat in this part of the world.
KCons supports the Wet Tropics Management Authority and Barron Catchment Care Association and the regional natural resources management body, Terrain, and networks with other like-minded community groups. We also foster volunteers and facilitate regional educational and research entities and individuals.
Our community native nursery of around 6000 local species, provides plants for our ongoing projects and activities which include revegetation/improvement projects from very small to very large, and the nursery plants are on sale to the public. Saturday mornings are set aside for nursery work and plantings and you are welcome to drop in for a chat or to join us at the work bench for a bit of potting up.
If you would like to lend a pair of hands of offer a donation to the cause you can contact Secretary Jax Bergersen envirojax@optusnet.com.au
